Saying ‘Yes’ to a Social Europe
- The UK has ceded sovereignty to a variety of external powers including many foreign-owned multinationals who determine levels of investment and national institutions like our utilities that have been privatised and sold to the highest bidder.
- Our energy security is becoming dependent on the Chinese Government; Indian entrepreneurs preside over the demise of our steel industry; and Canadian multinationals decide how many jobs will be available in Northern Ireland.
- Privatisation of the public sector, particularly in the NHS, has seen outsourcing contracts in the hands of American corporations.
- Trident is controlled by the US and their foreign policy needs.
- Cameron and Osbourne are happy to negotiate away our sovereignty in TTIP – the US and EU trade deal that opens up our public services to foreign competition.
- None of the above would change with BREXIT.
- Pooling, not ceding sovereignty in the EU has served our national interest.
